The Partner of Choice

To solve the grand challenges facing society, you need to work side by side with leaders in the private, public and nonprofit sectors. At NC State, we know that world-changing research and scholarship are built on innovative partnerships. And we’ve shown time and again that those partnerships create jobs and improve lives by driving cutting-edge discoveries to market.

We make it simple for our partners to reap the fruits of university research — which is why they keep seeking us out. During the last few years, NC State has emerged to lead nine federally funded public-private efforts: rolling out a national smart grid, pioneering wearable nanotech to monitor health outcomes, building the next generation of power electronics, improving the efficiency of advanced manufacturing and nuclear reactors, developing novel techniques for data analysis, halting the spread of nuclear weapons and helping farmers adapt to climate change.

Much of that work is done on our award-winning Centennial Campus. Home to more than 75 industry, government and nonprofit partners, Centennial serves as a national model for public-private collaboration. The new ideas and new businesses that begin life on Centennial Campus add real value to our state and the people who live here.

Strengthening Business and Industry

NC State has a long, vibrant history of successful partnerships with individual companies and entire industry sectors. HQ Raleigh at Centennial Campus offers a broad range of workspaces for both students and professionals seeking a highly dynamic work environment. And our Industry Expansion Solutions unit, the first of its kind in the United States, has helped North Carolina businesses grow and prosper for more than 50 years.

The Supply Chain Resource Cooperative draws on the thought leadership in our supply chain management curriculum — ranked sixth in the country by Bloomberg Businessweek — to extend the resources of corporate partners while giving students crucial real-world experience.

Our value to industry stems from more than just the resources we offer. We design business-friendly research agreements that make it easy for partners of all kinds to collaborate with NC State. And our Industry Alliances group connects our researchers with corporate and governmental partners on collaborative projects.

Working With Government

Local, state and federal government agencies look to NC State for assistance in training their staffs, providing services and conducting research that will remake the world for the better.

When the U.S. Army needs its special operations soldiers to receive rapid immersion in regions key to the nation’s strategic interests, it sends them to NC State’s Language Training Center. Our research serves to strengthen everything from local and large-scale infrastructure to the fabrics worn by first responders. And all across our campus and beyond, we’re working with federal agencies to solve some of the toughest challenges facing the nation — and the planet.

Serving the Greater Good

As a land-grant university, NC State carries a commitment to service in its DNA. For our Service Raleigh event — an annual day of service led by NC State Student Government and students in the university’s Park Scholarships program — thousands of student, faculty and staff volunteers partner with more than 60 community organizations to meet needs all over the Raleigh area.

Alongside its partners, NC State works to attack problems from every angle. On behalf of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, our Institute for Advanced Analytics has helped to better model the factors that bear on food insecurity. A senior design class built vacuum chambers to check whether dented cans are safe to consume. And industrial and systems engineers have lent their expertise to ensure donated food is distributed efficiently and fairly.
