Reusable Blocks

Save a block, or group of blocks, to use later in any post or page on your site.

When building a website with WordPress, content maintainers may often find themselves adding the same content across numerous pages or posts. The reusable block feature within the Gutenberg block editor can save time by saving a block, or numerous blocks, and its contents into a replicable format that can be used on any page or post.

A common example is a paragraph block that contains the same text and might live at the bottom of certain webpages on a site. A “Call to Action”, information on how to contact a specific party, or a link to a table of resources are all example of paragraph blocks that may be regularly used across a site, but contain the same content each time.

Creating a Reusable Block.

Making a block reusable is easy to do. In order to avoid creating the same content numerous times, you can instead take the following steps to make a block reusable:

  1. While in a page or post, select a block.
  2. Click on the three dots that appear in the toolbar.
  3. Click on “Add to Reusable blocks”.
  4. Give it a name.
  5. Click “Publish” and then “Save”.

Grouping Multiple Blocks

The reusable block feature also supports grouping several blocks into one reusable block.

Adding a Reusable Block to a Page or Post

After a block has been made reusable, content maintainers can add it to a page or post like any other block.
